# Build interactive presentations with your AI assistant

Backrow is a remote MCP server. Connect it once to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another assistant and ask for a presentation: the assistant designs every slide in your style, adds live polls, Q&A, feedback and sign-ups, checks the slides as pictures, and reads the results after your talk.

Connector address: https://joinbackrow.com/api/mcp

- Remote MCP over Streamable HTTP
- Sign-in with OAuth 2.1 and your Google account
- Hosted in the EU (Belgium)

## Set it up

### Claude (web, desktop and mobile)

Open Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector.

Paste the address and save.

Click Connect and sign in with Google. The first time, name your company: your Backrow account is made right away.

### Claude Code

Run this command in your terminal:

```
claude mcp add --transport http backrow https://joinbackrow.com/api/mcp
```

Type /mcp in Claude Code and sign in.

### ChatGPT

Turn on developer mode under Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced settings, on a plan that allows custom connectors.

Create a connector with the address, with OAuth sign-in.

Sign in with Google when ChatGPT asks.

### Cursor

Open Settings › MCP and add a server, or put this in ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "backrow": {
      "url": "https://joinbackrow.com/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Cursor opens the sign-in window the first time.

### Other assistants

Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth needs only the address.

For tools without a sign-in window, make a personal key in Backrow ([Organization › AI assistant](https://joinbackrow.com/admin/org/assistant)) and send it as a Bearer token in the Authorization header.

No Backrow account yet? Your first sign-in makes one.

## What your assistant can do

- `get_design_guide, get_house_style`: How Backrow slides are built (HTML on a 1920×1080 canvas, with live bindings for the results), and your organization’s colors, fonts and logo.
- `get_examples, get_example`: Finished example slides for every kind of interactivity.
- `create_presentation, import_pdf, request_upload, check_upload, confirm_upload, list_presentations, get_presentation, use_presentation, delete_presentation`: Make presentations (also from a PDF, at a link or sent from your computer through a one-time upload link), list, read, choose and remove them.
- `put_slide, put_slides, get_slide, edit_slide, move_slide, delete_slide`: Write and change slides. Every slide is cleaned and checked.
- `create_poll, update_poll, delete_poll, create_word_cloud, update_word_cloud, create_quiz, update_quiz`: Polls, word clouds and quizzes, in several languages.
- `search_images, upload_image, list_images, delete_image`: Openly licensed images with their credit, and your own images (also your logo and photos from your computer, through the same one-time upload link).
- `preview_slide, preview_presentation`: Pictures of the slides with sample results, plus anything that sticks out or is cut off.
- `get_credits, prepare_session`: The credits left and what a presentation costs; a session ready to start, with its code.
- `get_results, list_sessions, get_session_results`: Everything the room did, per session and across sessions.

Everything your assistant needs to know about Backrow, with every tool and its parameters, is on [one page written for AI assistants](https://joinbackrow.com/backrow-for-ai.md). Point it there if it does not know Backrow yet.

## Things to ask

- “Make a 15-minute talk about our new travel policy in our brand colors, with a poll to open and feedback at the end.”
- “Add a slide after the second poll that says what share of the people who chose A also chose B.”
- “The session is over. Summarize the results, group the open questions by theme and draft a follow-up mail.”

## How the live results get into your design

Your assistant marks elements on a slide: this box is answer A, this number is its percentage, this bar grows with the votes. During the talk Backrow fills those elements with the room’s answers, so the results take your fonts, colors and layout. Nothing is pasted on top of your slide.

## Sign-in and safety

- Your assistant only works inside your own organization.
- Access tokens last one hour; revoke personal keys at any time in Organization › AI assistant.
- Backrow stores only hashes of tokens and keys.
- Slides are cleaned before they are saved: no scripts, no outside content.

## Questions and answers

### Do I need to know how to code?

No. You talk to your assistant; it uses the connector for you.

### Can I use a deck I already have?

Yes, in two ways; your assistant asks which you want. Keep your slides exactly as they are: export them to PDF and your assistant gives you a one-time upload link to drop the PDF in (with the .pptx for your speaker notes); you confirm the file in the chat, every page becomes a slide, and the assistant adds polls, word clouds or a quiz between or on the pages. Or let your assistant rebuild them as Backrow slides from the file you attach in the chat: the live results then sit inside the design, in your house style, but the slides are not pixel-identical. You can also upload a PDF or a Claude Slides export in Backrow yourself.

### Can I give my assistant my logo and photos?

Yes. When they sit on your computer, your assistant gives you the same kind of one-time upload link, with a section for your logo (and a version for dark slides) and one for up to 20 photos, next to your presentation if it needs that too. You check in the chat what arrived; only after your yes do the images join your organization’s images. Your logo does not become your house logo by itself: your assistant asks for that separately, and only owners and admins can change the house style.

### Which assistants work best?

Any assistant with MCP support works. Assistants that can look at pictures use the previews to check their own slides.
